Name meme

It's all [livejournal.com profile] rimrunner's fault.

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.

Sorta: I'm the first-born son in my family, and my name is Erik William Nielsen.
My father is the first-born son in his family, and his name is Dann William Nielsen.
My paternal grandfather was the first-born sone in his family, and his name was Carl William Nielsen.

You can see the pattern.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?

As noted somewhere else, I'm having difficulty coming up with a boy's name that begins with "F" that I'm not averse to. Frederick, Frank, Ferdinand; these are fine names, but they don't really grab me. There's a dwarf in the Prose Edda named Fili, but that may be hard for my in-laws to pronounce....

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?

My stillborn older sister was named Lisa, briefly, so probably not that. Good question, actually. Although I do recall some conversation about naming my youngest brother Christine or Christina if he had been born a girl, so perhaps that would have been my fate.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?

At confirmation, I chose Christopher, but that was because he was, like me, a mythical giant. Otherwise, no, I like Erik.

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?

Eric, Erick, Erich, Arik; Nelson, Nelsen, Neilson, Nielson, Neilsen, Nilson. My hand-writing used to be so atrocious that I ended with a nametag for Evil Nielsen once; I treasured that one for quite a while.

Fabian, Felix. You could also cheat with Fileas/Fineas.

Felix might work. Fabian, nah. Thank you.

I assume that Frodo is out of the question. :-)

Flipper, Fonzie, Frank, Ferguson.

Hehe, Yoko wouldn't go for Frodo, not because she's not a geek (she can quote those movies, so I think she's qualified), but just on sheer principle.

Fonzie... Hmmm.

Faust would be an excellent/awful thing to name a child. Just imagine the kid wrestling with the destiny of a name like that.

I think we should short-circuit this dilemma by having a girl.
