Have returned, sleepy Yoko in tow. If history is any guide, she's going to be jet-lagged for a week. Me, I'm sleepy right now (1 in the afternoon), but that's sort of okay, since if I went to bed now, it would be like going to bed at 5 in the morning in Japan. In other words, I'm slowly getting acclimated to Greenwich Mean Time....
Anywho. The trip went fine, although, of course, the circumstances were less than ideal; Yoko's dad passed away in August. In Buddhism, there's a 49-day long period of official mourning, and my trip was timed so that I could be present for the ceremony. Obviously, the hurt still goes on, but now the obligation of mourning has passed, so we can go on with life.
And so we did. Here's a picture that's pretty typical of how I spent my evenings in Japan:

I'll post more pictures as I sort through them.
