Nauru loses contact with the world
Nauru is a tiny (8 sq. mile) island country with a population of 12,000. Shortly after Bernard Dowiyogo unseated then-President Rene Harris, its telecommunications network collapsed, and the nation degnerated into conflict between the two contenders' forces. Communication has been reduced to contact with ships with Satellite phones, and the last batch of communication indicated that the government is completely bankrupt. No one seems to know who's actually in charge of the country now.
Nauru used to be one of the richest nations in the region, thanks to extensive phosphate mining. Unfortunately, the phosphate has almost all run out, and the mining has reduced the once-beautiful island to a moon-like, inhospitable terrain.
