I've let me sense of civic duty do it to me again: I've volunteered to be an Inspector for the 2004 election. Well, volunteer's probably not quite the right word-- the Registrar of Voters is going to pay me $122 for my efforts.
What does this all entail? It entails picking up election materials ahead of time, working from 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., supervising a trio of other volunteers, and returning election materials after closing. Oh, yeah, and dealing with people who haven't registered, have been assigned to the wrong polling place, or just have something against the current election system in general.
OTOH, I get put my effort where my mouth is and get involved. Fair enough.

Date: 2004-08-09 09:21 pm (UTC)In the recall election, I went around bitching that I overhead a poll worker giving misleading instructions to one of the voters. It didn't occur to me to actually get off my ass and participate.
