What, these guys never saw "Capricorn One"?

Seriously, you're not helping the tinfoil crowd stay on the medicine is all I'm saying.

In a similar vein, it occurs to me that any clever aliens wishing to visit earth would do well to make themselves look like the stereotypical scifi aliens, a la Communion or Close Encounters. If they were sighted, who would believe the stories?

Around the time the movie JFK came out, I heard somebody talking about the idea of a "benign conspiracy." The idea is that people don't actually have to be part of a conspiracy to help perpetuate it. All it takes is the widespread human tendency to reject ideas which wander too far from our expectations.

As a corollary, you don't actually have to be part of a conspiracy to benefit from its perpetuation.

I like the alien idea, by the bye. It explains so much.
