Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] rimrunner.

1.Elaborate on your default icon.

It's me, about a year or so ago. I'm generally clean-shaven, but when Yoko goes out of town (as she did at the time), I sometimes stop shaving. That was about a month's growth. It lasted until I went to Japan to collect Yoko-- she took one look at it and said, "No." I'm good with that.

2. What's your current relationship status?

Married ten years! Still going like gangbusters!

3. Ever have a near-death experience?

As in, nearly died? Well, not really, but I've had enough near-scrapes to know that my last word will almost certainly be a four-lettered expletive having to do with copulation.

4. Name an obvious quality you have.

Although I've never noticed it myself, people have, on occasion, and apparently at random, informed me that I am, after all, tall. As for personality, I'm diplomatic. And a very few people have even said that I was funny.

5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?

We Are Scientists, "The Great Escape" (last song on TripleJ)

6. Any celeb you would marry?

Perfectly happy with my darling wife right now, thanks, but I would certainly recommend the talented Ms. Danica McKellar to a young, unattached clone me. Math is sexy, folks.

7. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?

A lot of people in Japan seem to think I look like Tom Cruise (at least, from my nose up). In High School they said I looked a bit like Tom Petty, but in early college, it was JCSS all the way.

8. Do you wear a watch? What kind?

Lorus, analog, water-resistant to 100 feet, on my right wrist, even though I'm right-handed. I wear my watch on right wrist because that's how my dad wears his watch. Weird, huh?

9. Do you have anything pierced?

Left ear, but it's closed up by now.

10. Do you have any tattoos?

No, still looking for the right design.

11. Do you like pain?

Not for its own sake. If it's in service of a goal (i.e., a workout, or shiatsu, or satisfying that itch I can never quite scratch), I'm all right with it.

12. Do you like to shop?

Only when I have a list.

13. What was the last thing you paid for with cash?

Wet burrito de carnitas. Mmm.

14. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?

Roundtrip flight from DC to NYC on the weekend of 08/04-06. (Gonna be in DC for a conference 08/02-04; who's buying the drinks?)

15. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?

An unnamed legal assistant at some firm in Fairfield, CA, my 24th ECF HelpDesk call of the day. (Yes, I am working as I LJ; multitasking is good.)

16. What is on your desktop background?

At work, a Mada T-shirt logo I ripped off the web somewhere. I'm not a fan of the brand or surf clothes in general, but I liked the design on this one. At home, a picture of my niece and nephew opening presents last Christmas.

17. What is the background on your cell phone?

My nephew making an angry face.

18. Do you like redheads?

Sure! Who doesn't like [livejournal.com profile] missludmilla and [livejournal.com profile] matrushkaka?

19. Do you know any twins?

Yes, fraternal.

20. Do you have any weird relatives?

Some in my family would undoubtedly count me among them.

21. What was the last movie you watched?

PotC: Dead Man's Chest.

22. What was the last book you read?

The Time Traveler's Wife. I enjoyed the book, but I was thoroughly unsatisfied with the ending. I'm currently reading two books: Low Life, by Luc Sante, about the rise of the seedier side of New York (it inspired Martin Scorcese's Gangs of New York); and The People of the Abyss, by Jack London, about the slum conditions of East London circa 1900. These dovetail nicely and get my socialist fires properly stoked.

Time Traveler's Wife was one of the books I picked up in Moe's last weekend. well, picked up is the wrong word; [livejournal.com profile] peculiaire pulled it off the shelf, put it on my stack and said "This one. you will buy and read it." I trust her taste generally, so..

if you can do so without spoilers, what about the ending was unsatisfying?

It's hard to answer that without spoilers.

I'll be another one who's happy to talk to you about it after you've read it, though!

Em's exactly right. In fact, I deliberately erased the second sentence where I went on to describe my frustration as I couldn't do so without giving it away.

The rest of the book was enjoyable, though.
