Just finished watching the first two seaons of The Office. This is a British comedy/drama series, and it's not for the feint of heart or those who cannot bear to watch human suffering. This is the proverbial train-wreck that is so hard to wrench your eyes away from; it's repulsive at first, and then you can't help watching it just to see how much more horrible it's going to become. All this, and it's really entertaining to boot.

I wait with bated breath for Christmas Special to hit the shelves.

Skewered on your heart again! Oh, the indignity of being pierced by such a small, blunt heart, hardened by pressure and rejection to the consistency of diamond....

It is so bright and sparkly, though.

It's great, no question. And they had the wisdom to stop when they started running out of ideas, as the two main writers (Ricky and a friend of his) admitted was happening near the end of season 2.

What's scary is contemplating how NBC is going to adapt this to network USA TV. The improvised feel of the whole series would seem to be the antithesis of how the standard network sitcom is produced. I'm glad I got a chance to see the original, because I have a bad feeling a lot of folks aren't going to give it a chance once they see what NBC comes out with, sadly.
